9/11 Memorial
The CTVFC is proud to have a permanent 9/11 memorial on display at the Route 19 Fire Station. The public is reminded that our 9/11 Memorial, which was formally dedicated on September 11, 2012, is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for people to view, touch a piece of ground zero, and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001. Each year, the members of the CTVFC gather to salute and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11 and the memorial serves as a constant reminder to never forget.

April 20, 2011 – Steel picked up at JFK airport in New York City
April 21, 2011 – Steel arrived in Cranberry Township
Sept 11, 2011 – Groundbreaking for memorial
Sept 11, 2012 – Memorial dedicated
Details:
• 836 pound steel beam, 90”x12”x28”, unknown from which tower
• Steel sits on two pedestals representing the Twin Towers and sits atop a stone that depicts a map outline of city streets and neighboring buildings on 9/11/2001.
• Granite slab displays timeline of events on 9/11/2001 on front and images from that day on back
• The memorial cost between $50,000 and $60,000 and garnered donations from the township and several community businesses
• Memorial open to public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – visitors are welcome to enter and touch the memorial
Annually on September 11th:
• American flag raised at sunrise outside Park station on Rt 19
• Taps are sounded six times throughout the morning, one time for each key event of 9/11/2001:
• 8:46 a.m.: Terrorists crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower
• 9:03 a.m.: Terrorists crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower
• 9:37 a.m.: Terrorists crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon
• 9:59 a.m.: The South Tower collapsed
• 10:03 a.m.: After learning of the other attacks, passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 launched a counterattack on terrorists aboard their plane to try to seize control of the aircraft. In response, the terrorists crashed the plane into an empty field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
• 10:28 a.m.: The North Tower collapsed
• American flag lowered at sunset
• The public is invited to attend the events of the day.
